iSafePass — Platform Documentation
iSafePass is Nigeria's real-time community safety platform. It connects citizens, families, neighbours, emergency coordinators, and security agencies on a single network — enabling instant emergency response, community incident reporting, missing persons coordination, and AI-powered safety intelligence across every state in Nigeria.
The platform operates at two layers: a citizen layer (free mobile app for individuals and families) and an institutional layer (command dashboards for security agencies, coordinators, and government bodies). Both layers feed the same real-time safety network, making every user both a beneficiary and a contributor to community safety.
iSafePass is free for every citizen, permanently. Revenue is generated exclusively from agency and enterprise subscriptions, which cross-subsidise the citizen tier.
Overview
Vision & Mission
Vision
A Nigeria where every citizen — regardless of location, income, or access to formal security — has the tools to protect themselves, their families, and their communities in real time.
Mission
To build the most trusted community safety network in Africa by combining citizen-powered reporting, real-time emergency coordination, and AI safety intelligence into a single free platform.
Problem Statement
Nigeria faces a severe public safety gap. Traditional emergency response infrastructure (911-equivalent services) is fragmented, under-resourced, and often inaccessible to the majority of the population. There is no unified platform for citizens to report threats, coordinate emergency response, or track community safety in real time.
Solution
iSafePass solves this by creating a networked safety layer on top of existing community structures — enabling instant SOS, community incident reporting, and professional emergency coordination tools that work on standard Android and iOS devices, even with intermittent connectivity.
Overview
Platform Architecture
iSafePass consists of three integrated components:
Citizen Mobile App
Flutter-based cross-platform app for Android and iOS. Handles SOS triggering, incident reporting, missing persons, family safety, drive mode, neighbour networking, and safety intelligence. Offline-capable for core emergency features.
Agency & Coordinator Dashboard
Web-based command console for security agencies and emergency coordinators. Provides real-time incident feeds, SOS dispatch, area broadcasts, case management, and operational analytics across any jurisdiction.
Backend Intelligence Platform
Django/GeoDjango backend with PostGIS, Django Channels (WebSocket), Celery, Redis, and GROQ AI. Handles real-time geospatial data, federated node architecture, AI classification, trust scoring, and cross-node intelligence sharing.
Data Flow
When a citizen triggers SOS, the event is processed by the backend in under 500ms — simultaneously pushing WebSocket notifications to all nearby users, coordinators, and agency dashboards within the configured radius, while logging the geospatial event to PostGIS for analytics and audit.
For Users
Citizens
iSafePass is designed first for the individual Nigerian citizen. Every feature in the citizen app is free, requires no subscription, and is designed to work even in areas with poor network connectivity.
Getting Started
Core Citizen Features
For Users
Families
The family safety module lets you track every family member in real time, set geofenced safe zones, and receive instant alerts when anyone needs help.
Family Setup
The family admin creates a group and generates a QR code. Each member scans it from their own iSafePass account to join. No logins are shared — every member maintains their own account and privacy controls.
Key Capabilities
Real-time location tracking
See every member's live position on a shared family map, updated continuously throughout the day.
Geofenced safe zones
Create named zones (Home, School, Work) with arrival and departure notifications.
Family SOS visibility
Any family member's SOS alert appears immediately on every other member's screen — no delay, no missed alerts.
Device offline alerts
If a member's device goes offline longer than the configured threshold, you receive an automatic notification.
Member profiles
View each member's last location, device status, and recent alert history from a single profile screen.
For Users
Neighbours Network
iSafePass helps you build a verified safety circle with the people who live closest to you. A strong neighbourhood network is the fastest first response to any emergency.
How Neighbours Work
Once KYC-verified, users can discover and connect with other verified residents within a configurable proximity radius. Connections are mutual and can be removed at any time. All location sharing requires explicit consent and is governed by granular privacy settings.
Your exact location is never shared with neighbours unless you explicitly activate Live Location Sharing. The neighbours map shows an approximate area, not a precise address.
For Users
Drive Mode
Drive Mode monitors your journey from start to destination — automatically escalating alerts if you don't arrive as planned.
Journey Flow
Set destination, ETA, and emergency contact before departure
iSafePass monitors your live route with threat zone overlays
Tap once on arrival to confirm you're safe
If you miss check-in: first alert to you, then to emergency contact, then to nearest coordinator
Your contact sees your live journey progress throughout
Features
Emergency SOS
SOS is iSafePass's most critical feature. It is designed to be activated in under one second and deliver alerts to nearby responders in under 10 seconds, even on 2G connectivity.
SOS Trigger Modes
Single tap from the home screen or lock screen widget. The fastest path to help.
Simulates an incoming call on your screen. Discreet — looks like a normal call to anyone nearby.
Triggers a loud audible alert from the phone speaker to deter threats and attract attention.
Hands-free activation via voice command. Configurable trigger phrase for personal recognition.
Alert Delivery
Upon SOS activation, the platform simultaneously pushes alerts to: (1) all opted-in citizens within the configured radius (default 10 km), (2) registered coordinators for the affected jurisdiction, (3) agency dashboards monitoring the area, and (4) the user's nominated family contacts.
Cancellation & False Alarms
A 5-second cancellation window appears immediately after SOS activation. After the window closes, a PIN-protected cancel option remains available — triggering a “false alarm” notice to all notified responders. There are no penalties for genuine accidental triggers.
Features
Incidents & Alerts
The incidents module is a community-powered reporting system that gives every Nigerian the ability to document and share safety threats in real time.
Incident Categories
Report Components
Each incident report captures: category, severity level (low / medium / high / critical), precise GPS coordinates, timestamp, written description, optional photo/video evidence, and reporter trust score (used for AI weighting).
Severity & Alert Propagation
Critical and high-severity incidents trigger automatic push notifications to all users within a radius proportional to severity (5 km for medium, 15 km for critical). Medium and low incidents appear on the live map but do not generate push alerts unless the user has opted into all-severity notifications.
Features
Missing Persons
iSafePass provides a complete missing persons coordination system — from initial report to AI-assisted case intelligence and community-driven sighting collection.
Case Lifecycle
Report Filed
Reporter submits name, age, photo, description, last known location, and contact details.
Community Broadcast
Alert pushed to users near last known location. Case appears on the missing persons map.
Sightings Collected
Community members submit time-stamped, geotagged sightings directly linked to the case.
AI Analysis
Platform AI processes sightings to identify movement patterns and suggest search corridors.
Coordinator Review
Assigned coordinators review AI intelligence and coordinate search teams.
Resolution
Case marked resolved. Community notified of outcome. Data archived for statistics.
Features
Safety Intelligence
iSafePass uses machine learning to transform raw incident data into actionable safety intelligence — giving every user a real-time picture of the risk around them.
Safety Score
Every location receives a 0–100 safety score computed from: incident frequency in the past 30 days (weighted by recency and severity), time-of-day risk patterns, historical baseline for the area, and active ongoing incidents. Scores update in real time.
Route Safety
Enter origin and destination. iSafePass overlays your route with threat zone data and provides a route-level risk score. If risk exceeds a configurable threshold, alternative routes are automatically suggested with comparative safety scores.
AI Hotspot Mapping
DBSCAN clustering algorithms identify geographic incident clusters (hotspots) and surface them on the safety map. Hotspot severity is computed from cluster density, incident recency, and category weighting (violent crimes scored higher than property incidents).
Features
Connectivity Intelligence Map
iSafePass includes Nigeria's first crowd-sourced network reliability mapping system — because safety tools only work if connectivity does.
Citizens submit real-world connectivity reports (signal strength, carrier, speed test results) that are aggregated into a national coverage heatmap. Underserved zones are highlighted for infrastructure stakeholders. The system supports carrier-level breakdowns across MTN, Airtel, Glo, and 9mobile.
Features
Identity & Trust System
iSafePass operates a layered trust system to ensure the safety network remains reliable, accurate, and free from false reports and bad actors.
Trust Score Components
| Feature | Citizen | Coordinator | Agency |
|---|---|---|---|
| KYC Verification | |||
| Incident Report Accuracy | |||
| SOS False Alarm Rate | — | — | |
| Sighting Accuracy | — | ||
| Device Reputation | |||
| Response Rate | — |
How Trust Affects the Platform
Higher-trust users' incident reports receive greater AI weighting, appear higher on coordinator feeds, and are delivered with broader alert radii. Low-trust users' reports are still accepted but flagged for human review before broad distribution.

For Agencies
Intelligence Federation
iSafePass operates a distributed node architecture — each agency instance is a node that can share threat intelligence, incident patterns, and operational data with partner nodes across jurisdictions.
How Federation Works
Agencies opt into the intelligence network by activating their Intelligence Node. Once activated, aggregated (non-personal) threat intelligence — hotspot patterns, incident categories, frequency trends — is shared bidirectionally with partner nodes. Agencies control exactly which data categories they share and receive.
Individual citizen data is never shared in the federation layer. Only aggregated, anonymised threat intelligence (patterns, clusters, frequencies) is exchanged between nodes.
